Fred Smith Company served as prime contractor for NCDOT’s resurfacing of 3.4 miles of Wade Avenue from I-40 to Blue Ridge Road, including the ramps at Edwards Mill Road.
To complete the work within an accelerated schedule, two crews worked simultaneously from opposite ends of the corridor. The teams milled the existing pavement and placed approximately 13,700 tons of new asphalt, completing the entire project in just two weeks.
Meeting that schedule required careful coordination of paving crews, asphalt production, trucking, traffic control, and equipment. The result is a smoother, more durable roadway along an important route serving western Raleigh.
