King Asphalt recently completed the George Bishop Parkway Reconstruction project, located in Horry County, South Carolina. This undertaking aimed to revitalize and enhance the infrastructure of George Bishop Parkway, providing improved driving conditions for residents and visitors.

The scope of work encompassed several essential tasks to ensure a comprehensive reconstruction effort. These included:

10” Full Depth Patch: The project involved conducting a thorough 10-inch full-depth patching of the roadway. This step addressed any underlying structural issues, establishing a solid foundation for the subsequent layers of pavement.

2” Mill 4202 SY: A total area of 4,202 square yards (SY) underwent milling, reducing the surface by 2 inches. This process removed the worn-out asphalt layer, creating a smooth base for the upcoming overlay.

400 Tons of Type B Surface: Approximately 400 tons of Type B surface materials were utilized to achieve a durable and long-lasting road surface. Type B surface materials are renowned for their strength and resistance to wear and tear, making them ideal for high-traffic areas.

Temporary/Thermoplastic Pavement Markings: As part of the project, temporary and thermoplastic pavement markings were installed. These markings not only enhance safety but also provide clear guidance to motorists, ensuring a smooth flow of traffic.

The majority of the work on George Bishop Parkway was focused on the section extending from Hwy 501, past FedEx. However, milling and paving were also carried out on both sides of the Intracoastal Waterway bridge. This comprehensive approach ensured that all critical areas of the parkway received necessary improvements.

Through the diligent efforts of King Asphalt, the George Bishop Parkway Reconstruction project has successfully revitalized the roadway, enhancing its durability, safety, and overall quality. Residents and visitors can now enjoy a smoother and more reliable driving experience along this crucial corridor in Horry County, SC.
