Flatiron-Fred Smith Company Joint Venture Secures a $450 Million Contract for the 540 Outer Loop Project 

The N.C. Department of Transportation and N.C. Turnpike Authority has awarded the first of two contracts to Flatiron-Fred Smith Company as a joint venture to construct the second phase of the Complete 540 Project in southern Wake County. This significant development aims to create a high-speed toll facility with six lanes, reaching speeds of 70 mph. It will extend the Triangle Expressway from south of Rock Quarry Road to Interstate 87/U.S. 64/U.S. 264.
