Project Details

The Fred Smith Company is constructing the roadway widening project in Greenville, NC, contracted by the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT). This project focuses on a comprehensive rebuild of Dickinson Avenue, stretching 1.34 miles from NC-11 to Reade Circle. The goal was to enhance the infrastructure and aesthetic appeal of the downtown area through grading, utility management, asphalt paving, concrete flatwork, and strategic landscaping.

The project is divided into seven sections, with notable progress achieved so far. Sections 3 and 6 have been successfully completed, showcasing the quality and efficiency of the work executed. Currently, efforts are concentrated on sections 2 and 5, while a prior contractor finalized section 4 before the Fred Smith Company assumed responsibility. Looking ahead, sections 1 and 7 are slated to commence early next year, marking the final phases of this vital infrastructure improvement.

A pivotal aspect of this project is deploying approximately 15,000 tons of fresh asphalt, underscoring the scale and significance of the improvements made to Dickinson Avenue. As this project advances, it promises to bolster transportation efficiency and contribute to the beautification and revitalization of Greenville’s downtown core.
